- A valid teacher training qualification such as:
- BTC / D.El.Ed
- B.El.Ed
- Equivalent course

- Final-year candidates are also eligible
For Upper Primary Level (Class 6–8)
Candidates must have:
- A Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks
- B.Ed / BTC / B.El.Ed or equivalent qualification
- Candidates with Special Education (RCI recognised) are also eligible
- Candidates with 4-year integrated teaching courses can apply

UPTET Paper I (Primary Teacher) exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for 150 marks, with a total duration of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). The exam comprises five subjects—Child Development & Pedagogy, two languages, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies—with no negative marking.
