Elon Musk calls for prosecution of Anthony Fauci after NIH admits funding gain-of-function research at Wuhan lab

On Friday, Elon Musk urged for the apprehension of Dr. Anthony Fauci following the disclosure of US government financing for risky research conducted at a Wuhan laboratory.

A day after revelations surfaced regarding US government funding for risky research conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China before the COVID-19 pandemic, Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter on Friday to demand the arrest of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former Chief Medical Advisor to the US President.

“Prosecute/Fauci,” Musk tweeted, sharing The Post’s Friday front page featuring a photo of Fauci alongside the headline “SICK LIES.”

On Thursday, Lawrence Tabak, a principal deputy director at the National Institutes of Health, testified before Congress, disclosing NIH funding for risky “gain-of-function” research at the Wuhan lab.

Representative Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.), a member of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, questioned Tabak about NIH support for the Wuhan Institute of Virology through the Manhattan-based nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance.

Tabak responded, stating, “It depends on your definition of gain-of-function research,” and confirmed, “If you’re speaking about the generic term, yes, we did.”

Tabak’s statement contradicts Fauci’s repeated assertions denying NIH funding for such research.

During his Congressional appearance in May 2021, Fauci claimed that NIH had never funded and “does not now fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

Elon Musk’s call for the arrest of Dr. Anthony Fauci has sparked a flurry of reactions from netizens.

“Prosecute/Fauci,” Musk tweeted, sharing The Post’s Friday front page featuring a photo of Fauci and the heading “SICK LIES.”

Although Musk didn’t specify the criminal charges Fauci should face, House Republicans have suggested fraud and misleading Congress, both of which can carry penalties of up to five years in jail.

In response to Musk’s tweet, one of his followers wrote, “Fauci deserves a prison cell!” Another user commented, “He’s always been a liar.”

The Chinese laboratory is accused of spreading the deadly respiratory virus, which has resulted in the loss of more than 1,190,546 lives in the US alone and caused widespread financial, social and educational damage around the world, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to documents revealed by The Intercept in late 2021, Manhattan-based EcoHealth Alliance used funding from Fauci’s agency to support trials at a Chinese institute that turned up three bat coronaviruses unrelated to COVID-19. When human-type receptors were introduced into “humanized” mice, researchers observed a significant increase in virus infection.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for overseeing the NIH, banned EcoHealth from receiving government funding for the next three years.

Despite the Chinese government refusing to allow an impartial international investigation, the world was left in the dark about the origins of COVID-19, with the FBI and the Department of Energy suspecting that the outbreak originated from a leak in a Wuhan lab .

Moreover, US President Joe Biden has remained relatively quiet about the cause of the outbreak, while his GOP rival Donald Trump has advocated forcing China to pay $10 trillion in “reparations”.
