Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has officially released the India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 notification. Through this nationwide recruitment drive, 28,636 vacancies will be filled for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts, including Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak.
Eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the GDS Online Engagement Portal. The registration process began on 31 January 2026, and the last date to apply is 16 February 2026 (up to 5:00 PM).

Posts & Service Conditions
The recruitment covers three categories of GDS posts:
- Branch Postmaster (BPM)
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
- Dak Sevak
Gramin Dak Sevaks are not regular government employees. Their engagement and service conditions are governed by the GDS (Conduct & Engagement) Rules, 2020. GDS are required to work 4–5 hours per day and can be retained only up to the age of 65 years.
Salary Structure (TRCA)

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Must have passed Secondary School Examination (Class 10) with Mathematics and English as subjects.
Knowledge of local language up to Class 10 is mandatory.
Special provisions apply for candidates from Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Sikkim.

The fee is non-refundable and can be paid via Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
Selection Process
Selection will be done purely on the basis of merit, prepared from Class 10 marks. Marks will be calculated up to four decimal places.
- Grade-based results will be converted using a 9.5 multiplication factor
- In case of a tie, preference will be given based on date of birth (older candidates first), followed by category-wise priority
Document Verification
Shortlisted candidates must report for physical document verification within 15 days of shortlisting. Original documents such as mark sheets, caste certificate, PwBD certificate (if applicable), medical certificate, and identity proof are mandatory.
